Job Title: Senior Drinking Water Scientist

Join the Department of Environmental Quality as a Senior Drinking Water Scientist and play a critical role in protecting the health of Montanans by ensuring the safety of drinking water.

About the Role:

This senior position will work with the PFAS rule writing team to develop and implement a process to manage Emergent Contaminant grants and become the bureau's PFAS expert. The successful candidate will work with public water supply systems to determine contaminated sources, assist systems in determining appropriate methods for addressing that contamination, and manage grant funds.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement a process to manage Emergent Contaminant grants
  • Work with the PFAS rule writing team to draft, adopt, and implement the new PFAS rule
  • Develop and deliver educational materials and presentations for PFAS and the emerging grant program
  • Communicate with other programs within the division and present PFAS and Emergent Contaminant information to a wide range of audiences
  • Manage grant funds, including reviewing proposed projects and ranking applications
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in a physical science field, such as chemistry, or a related field
  • Three years of directly related work experience
  • Preferred experience in fiscal management, self-motivation, and ability to work within a team
