As a Transit Operator, you will be responsible for transporting passengers in a safe and efficient manner, providing excellent customer service, and maintaining a clean and well-maintained vehicle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Transportation Services
    • Provide transportation services along designated fixed routes, connecting to other buses in a timely manner.
    • Provide direct transit services in a demand response program for persons with disabilities.
    • Transport seniors to and from nutrition sites for meals.
    • Pick up and deliver meals to clients.
  • Vehicle Maintenance
    • Perform daily vehicle inspections and maintenance tasks.
    • Notate maintenance issues and report them to the appropriate personnel.
  • Customer Service
    • Provide excellent customer service to passengers, including those with disabilities.
    • Collect fares and issue transfers as needed.
  • Administrative Tasks
    • Keep detailed records of transportation services, including mileage, fuel data, and incident reports.
    • Perform radio communications and report any issues to the dispatch center.
Requirements
  • Education
    • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Degree (G.E.D.) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • License and Certification
    • Valid Kansas Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement and DOT Certification.
  • Skills and Abilities
    • Ability to pass a physical agility test, motor vehicle records search, criminal background check, and drug screening.
    • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing situations.
Working Conditions

This position requires working in a variety of environments, including driving a vehicle, walking, and standing for long periods of time. The ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 100 pounds is also required.

Salary and Benefits

The salary for this position is $23.07 per hour. The Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off.
