Position Summary
The Television Broadcast Technician will report directly to the Senior Director of Production Engineering. This role is essential in providing technical support and engineering expertise across various studios and control rooms. Key responsibilities include maintaining broadcast systems and technology within our facilities, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, and ensuring compliance with security protocols. The position requires a blend of maintenance and project management skills, with support needed throughout the week, including a 24/7 operational schedule during peak periods.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive troubleshooting of technical facilities, including control rooms, studio equipment, audio systems, and associated computer systems.
- Perform routine maintenance on studio and control room equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Assist in the technical setup for studio operations and control room activities.
- Collaborate with production and operations teams to devise technical solutions that align with production goals.
- Install and update software and equipment systems as necessary.
- Diagnose and repair equipment at the module level using industry-standard testing tools.
- Oversee project management, system design, and integration efforts.
Essential Requirements:
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in a television broadcast setting or a relevant combination of education and experience.
- Proficient in computer server installation and maintenance.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Windows operating systems.
- Experience with broadcast production systems and software, including audio consoles, intercom systems, video switchers, and server-based playout systems.
- Understanding of TCP/IP networking and digital television standards (HDSDI).
- Ability to interpret system signal flow diagrams for television control rooms and studio environments.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to remain composed under the pressures of live broadcasting.
- Hands-on problem-solving capabilities with broadcast-related equipment and systems.
- Ability to support a 24/7 production environment effectively.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new production technologies.
- Experience in live production settings is advantageous.
- A degree in Engineering, Communications, or a related field is preferred.
- Familiarity with specific equipment such as Sony cameras, EVS servers, and Calrec audio consoles.
- Knowledge of SMPTE 2110 standards.
- Experience in system design and project management.
- Understanding of wireless audio and communication technologies.
- Experience with high-definition formats (1080P and 4K HDR).
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Self-motivated with the ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with various teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
