Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Cardiovascular Technologist to join our Electrophysiology Lab team at UnityPoint Health. As a member of our interdisciplinary team, you will contribute your professional knowledge and skills in the provision and management of care to patients undergoing invasive cardiac procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Clinical Excellence/Patient Care
    • Assess the needs of patients and families undergoing invasive cardiac procedures, providing appropriate teaching and making necessary referrals to ensure continuity of care.
    • Assist physicians in developing individual plans of care using a collaborative approach with patients/families and healthcare teams.
    • Promptly complete documentation to ensure accurate legal records of patient care.
    • Deliver high-quality care while demonstrating knowledge and clinical skills of the specialty required in the Cath Lab, in accordance with established policies, procedures, and standards of care under the direct supervision of physicians.
    • Utilize a holistic approach, considering biopsychosocial, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of patients and families served in the assigned service area.
    • Utilize critical thinking in making judgments and maintain responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of patient conditions.
    • Demonstrate and maintain proficiency in manual skills and techniques required in the administration of emergency medications used in the Cath Lab, including under the direct supervision of physicians.
    • Demonstrate and maintain proficiency in manual skills and techniques required to operate specialized equipment in the Electrophysiology Lab, including point of care testing, ablation equipment, cardiac rhythm management equipment, and advanced hemodynamic monitoring systems.
    • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of radiation safety and practice, including the use of advanced imaging systems, radiation protection devices, and exposure levels for both associates and patients.
  • Development & Patient Education
    • Continuously develop professional skills and involvement in professional activities that enhance CVT practice by sharing knowledge through networking and research.
    • Assess and choose teaching strategies appropriate to the patient's and their families' age-specific needs, culture, gender, readiness to learn, and level of comprehension.
    • Consult appropriate resources within the hospital to provide specialized education.
    • Demonstrate knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents, and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of a programmatically accredited program in invasive cardiovascular technology.
  • Current certification as a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) or Registered Cardiovascular Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) and in good standing with Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI). RCIS or RCES certification must be obtained within 12 months from hire date.
  • Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain certification within 3 months from hire date.
  • Must possess and maintain hospital CORE (Chain of Response in an Emergency) certification within 6 months from hire date.
  • Writes, reads, comprehends, and speaks fluent English.
  • Multicultural sensitivity.
  • Microsoft Office - basic computer skills.
  • Customer/patient-focused.
  • Critical thinking skills using independent judgment in making decisions.
  • Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
