Medical Laboratory Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Technologist/MLT/Lab Technician to join our team at the Cleveland Clinic. This is a PRN role that requires working evening shifts (2:30pm-11:00pm) and every other weekend. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in microbiology and be able to perform and interpret tests at all complexity levels.
Key Responsibilities- Perform and interpret tests at all complexity levels, demonstrating a strong understanding of laboratory testing principles and procedures.
- Maintain regulatory knowledge and awareness, adhering to quality control policies and procedures.
- Assume responsibility for quality control and quality assurance issues, taking action to resolve problems and maintain accurate records.
- Perform proficiency testing in compliance with CLIA regulations, analyzing proficiency survey samples and maintaining accurate documentation.
- Participate in continuing education and professional development, staying up-to-date with the latest laboratory techniques and technologies.
- Licensed in the state of Florida at the technologist level.
- Associate degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution.
- OR Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from a four-year college or university.
- OR meets the CLIA qualifications for high complexity testing personnel grandfathering clauses.
- Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT, MLT, or MLS) or certification eligible from the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT).
- American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification.
This position involves turning, stooping, bending, stretching, walking, and standing. The average amount of lifting is 10 pounds with occasional carrying of objects up to 20 pounds. Sitting for short periods of time, the ability to file, move records, laboratory supplies, and equipment are also required physical duties.
Mental DemandsThe ability to work at a fast pace, prioritize multiple assignments/projects, and respond to numerous requests is essential. The ability to resolve conflicts among staff and work collaboratively with department directors, physicians, and other members of the healthcare team is also required.
ConfidentialityThe employee has access to the entire medical record for the purpose of charting and correcting laboratory results and reviewing physician orders. The access is limited to the amount reasonably necessary to achieve the purpose of the laboratory testing request.
Personal Protective EquipmentFollows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
