Job Title: Cardiac OR Nurse Practitioner

As a Cardiac OR Nurse Practitioner at the University of California, you will play a critical role in providing exceptional patient care and leading the interdisciplinary team in the Cardiothoracic Surgical Service. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, collaborating with healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the operating room and coordinate the care of adult and pediatric cardiothoracic patients.
  • Provide patient and family education to promote a smooth transition from admission to discharge.
  • Develop and implement discharge plans, providing detailed instructions to patients and families.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Lead the rotational mentoring program and participate in clinical trials.
  • Show initiative in developing and implementing positive improvements for the allied health team.
  • Take a leadership role in research, teaching, and publishing.
Qualifications:
  • Current CA RN and CA NP License.
  • MSN/DNP in Adult Acute Care NP Specialty.
  • National Certification in NP Specialty.
  • BLS certification from American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
  • ACLS certification from American Heart Association.
  • NP, State of CA NP Furnishing with Schedule II, Additional: NPI #, DEA #, Enrollment in PECOS, Enrollment in CURES.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience preferred, including assisting in CT surgeries, EVH, and endo radial artery harvesting.
  • Previous Cardiac OR NP experience required.
  • Knowledge of cardiopulmonary anatomy and physiology.
  • Skill in physical assessment and nursing care of cardiac surgery patients.
  • Skill in teaching.
  • Knowledge, skill, and ability to perform patient history and physical assessment.
  • Skill and ability in written and verbal communication.
  • Knowledge of interdisciplinary resources needed to coordinate patient care and facilitate referral.
  • Skill in removal of chest tubes, temporary pacing wires, and sutures/staples.
  • Knowledge and skill in wound care and treatment.
  • Skill in organizing and prioritizing.
  • Ability to read, interpret, apply, and follow physician orders, policies, procedures, and written/verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work varying shifts.
