Job Overview

Position Type: Full-time, Night Shift (8 PM – 6 AM)

This role is a skilled, non-exempt position reporting directly to the Water Treatment Plant Superintendent. The individual will engage in advanced technical operations and maintenance of the municipal water treatment facility and associated systems, ensuring the consistent delivery of safe, drinkable water.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee plant operations in compliance with regulatory and contractual obligations.
  • Manually operate valves and gates through local control systems as required.
  • Initiate and manage the operation of pumps, engines, filters, and other treatment equipment.
  • Conduct routine inspections of assigned areas, recording operational data and performing necessary calculations.
  • Adjust process controls to maintain optimal performance and water quality.
  • Regulate water flow and chemical treatment processes as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate logs and prepare operational reports.
  • Participate in preventative maintenance and report significant equipment failures.
  • Perform housekeeping duties including cleaning tanks and filters, and maintaining facility grounds.
  • Conduct sampling and analysis to ensure compliance with water quality standards.
  • Assist in calibrating and troubleshooting operational equipment.
  • Manage chemical supplies and oversee chemical deliveries.
  • Communicate effectively with management regarding operational issues and equipment malfunctions.

Work Environment:

The position involves exposure to various environmental conditions, including noise, mechanical hazards, and chemical substances. The employee will be required to perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 50 pounds, walking on uneven surfaces, and climbing ladders.

Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a valid driver's license and a high school diploma or GED. An Associate's Degree in Math or Science is preferred, along with a minimum of five years of experience in water treatment operations or a related field. A Grade IV Water Treatment License from the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) is also required.

Skills and Abilities:

Candidates should demonstrate advanced knowledge of water treatment processes, safety regulations, and operational protocols. Strong analytical skills, effective communication, and the ability to work collaboratively with team members are essential for success in this role.
