We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Nurse Clinician III to join our team at UTMB Health. As an Advanced Beginner Clinician, you will possess the knowledge and skills necessary to meet nursing standards for professional practice specified in the Texas Nurse Practice Act without supervision.
Key Responsibilities- Professional Practice
- Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and document the daily care of assigned patients.
- Identify nursing diagnoses/patient care needs, develop and individualize care plans, and revise plans of care as needed.
- Execute physician's orders for all assigned patients, administer medications and treatments, and deliver culturally congruent and specialty-appropriate competent nursing care in accordance with UTMB's policies, procedures, and standards in a caring and compassionate manner.
- Perform routine technical procedures/skills in specialty areas assigned.
- Patient/Family Teaching & Health Promotion
- Provide basic patient/family instruction and healthcare teaching based on identified learning needs (patient values, beliefs, barriers, and readiness to learn).

- Utilize evidence-based resources to provide patient/family education.
- Use Teach-Back to determine effectiveness and modify strategies as needed.
- Care Coordination & Delegation
- Plan, coordinate, and prioritize patient care activities according to skill level and work complexity.
- Maintain safety and continuity of care using methods such as bedside shift report, hand-off tools/processes, inter-disciplinary rounding, etc.
- Demonstrate effective time management skills.
- Delegate appropriately, seeking guidance when needed.
- Demonstrate competent use of technology in the delivery of patient care.

- Identify ethical situations and seek assistance, if necessary, to resolve.
- Utilize available resources when ethical issues arise.
- Deliver culturally sensitive care using resources to meet the needs of patient/family.

- Complete the UTMB/Vizient Nurse Residency Program and complete an evidence-based practice project as required.

- Demonstrate ability to accept and adopt change by seeking knowledge and needed information.
- Demonstrate knowledge of how to access and utilize evidence-based resources to guide patient care.
- Quality, Resources & Safety
- Identify patient safety concerns and report appropriately; address immediate safety concerns appropriately.
- Identify unit quality metrics/outcomes data and improvement activities; actively engage in discussion, activities related to unit goals.
- Demonstrate self-care through practices that support personal well-being, personal safety, and injury prevention.
- General Requirements
- Complete required specialty-specific Competency-Based Orientation (CBO) tools by the initial performance evaluation due date for placement in employee file.
- Actively participate in ongoing self-evaluation of competency using Competency-Based Orientation (CBO) tools and e-performance nursing appraisal.
- Complete the annual self-evaluation on time for competency and performance evaluation.
- Perform and report point-of-care testing (POCT).
- Prioritize and organize work so that required assignments are completed within a specified time frame.
- Provide and maintain a clean, safe environment and perform and/or assist others to perform proper aseptic technique, isolation procedures, and infection control measures.
- Practice basic cost containment for patients and the unit.
- Consistently complete accurate, concise, and legible documentation for all patient, unit, and hospital records (including care delivery and telephone patient-related interactions).
- Competently utilize electronic forms of communication and documentation.
- Meet periodic UTMB and unit-specific compliance requirements for health screening, training, attendance, safety, and CPR.
- Adhere to internal controls and reporting structure.
