About the Role

This position is part of the Defense Health Agency Civilian Corps, Falls Church, VA, and is located in the Main Operating Room. As a Surgical Technologist, you will be responsible for providing direct surgical and indirect perioperative care as directed by the circulating nurse for specific procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the surgeon in a wide variety of complex surgical procedures, including General, Neurological, Orthopedic, Gynecologic, Urologic, ENT, Oral/Maxofacial, and Plastics and Vascular surgery.
  • Provide assistance in exposure, hemostasis, and other functions that will help the surgeon carry out a safe operation with optimal results for the patient.
  • Clean, process, and sterilize surgical instruments.
  • Assist in draping the patient for surgery based on established and written protocols.
  • Maintain the consumable supply readiness of the surgical suite.
  • Conduct required patient identification verification.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs and other organizations.

Specialized Experience

One year of specialized experience which includes preparing and screening patients for surgery, selecting and assembling instruments and equipment for procedures, and cleaning of the operating room after surgical procedures.
