Position Summary: Steven Winter Associates, Inc. (SWA) is on the lookout for a dedicated Passive House (PH) Field Verifier to join our expanding High Performance Building Solutions team. This role is crucial in ensuring that our projects adhere to energy efficiency and sustainability benchmarks through thorough on-site evaluations, testing, and verification processes that align with Passive House standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Effectively communicate building science principles and green building program requirements to project stakeholders, including owners, architects, engineers, and construction teams.
- Provide training to contractors and trade professionals on high-performance construction methodologies.
- Oversee multiple projects, including schedule development, milestone tracking, and ensuring compliance with Passive House criteria as per SWA's established policies.
- Conduct field inspections and testing to verify adherence to construction drawings, quality of workmanship, HVAC performance, and building envelope airtightness.
- Maintain clear and timely communication with colleagues, clients, and project teams.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field with a focus on building operations.
- 2-5 years of experience in field verification of building projects in North America, with a solid understanding of energy utilization in buildings.
- Experience with blower door testing, duct blaster assessments, and infrared camera evaluations is essential.
- Proven experience in field verification for green certifications or code compliance.
- Strong knowledge of building science principles, standards, and methodologies.
- Familiarity with relevant building codes, energy efficiency regulations, and sustainability standards applicable to Passive House construction.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with architects, engineers, clients, and construction teams.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess building designs, energy simulations, and performance metrics.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Passive House projects is advantageous.
- Prior experience as a HERS Rater, LEED Homes Green Rater, or NGBS Green Verifier, or other credentials demonstrating expertise in high-performance building strategies.
- Willingness to obtain relevant certifications through PHI, PHIUS, and/or ENERGY STAR Multifamily New Construction within the first year of employment.
Physical Requirements: This position involves a mix of office and fieldwork, with regular visits to active construction sites. Candidates should be prepared for physical demands, including lifting objects up to 35 pounds and standing for extended periods during site inspections.
Travel Requirements: Occasional overnight travel may be necessary, along with frequent local field visits.
