Position Summary

The Railroad Commission of Texas is seeking a qualified individual to fill the role of Plugging Inspector within the State Managed Well Plugging Program. This position involves conducting advanced technical fieldwork to oversee the plugging of orphaned wells, funded by federal grants aimed at methane reduction.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Inspecting orphan wells to assess their condition and identify access challenges.
  • Performing fluid level tests and monitoring plugging operations.
  • Conducting surveys for Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material (NORM).
  • Collecting and analyzing geological and engineering data.
  • Gathering soil samples to locate underground lines and wells.
This role is designed to enhance your knowledge of current oil and gas operations, regulatory requirements, and well plugging techniques. You will work under the guidance of experienced professionals, gaining valuable insights into the industry.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Geology, or a related scientific field, or an associate degree with relevant experience.
  • At least one year of experience in a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in oilfield operations and plugging processes.
  • Familiarity with regulatory functions and the Railroad Commission's guidelines.
Skills and Abilities

Candidates should possess strong mathematical skills, a solid understanding of geological principles, and excellent organizational and communication abilities. Proficiency in using technical equipment and software is essential, along with a valid Texas Driver's License and a good driving record.

Work Environment

Standard working hours are Monday through Friday, with options for flexible scheduling and telework as per agency policies.
