As a skilled Operating Room Nurse, you will provide high-quality patient care before, during, and after surgery. Your duties will include patient education, circulating nurse, and/or scrub nurse, as well as potentially First Assist. You will work closely with surgical teams to ensure patients receive the best possible care, serving as a liaison between the surgical team and patients' families.
Work Environment
Operating rooms in hospitals are the primary work setting for RNs. Various types of operating rooms exist, including General, Orthopedic, Neuro, Spine, Urology, and Cardiac/Thoracic.
Education and Requirements
To become an RN, you must earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or an Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN). Both programs require a significant amount of education and training. Additionally, you must pass the NCLEX to apply for a license as a RN. An active state license is required to work as an RN. ACLS certification is often necessary for this role.
