Position Overview:
The Surgical Services Technician plays a crucial role in the operating room, ensuring that all surgical procedures are conducted smoothly and efficiently. This position involves preparing the surgical environment, maintaining aseptic conditions, and assisting the surgical team in various capacities.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Prepare operating rooms by ensuring all sterile items are opened and ready for use, employing aseptic techniques.
2. Collaborate with surgical and sterile processing teams to guarantee the availability of necessary instruments and supplies.
3. Anticipate and procure additional materials required during surgical procedures.
4. Assist in documenting and managing charges for surgical items utilized during operations.
5. Maintain inventory levels and restock supplies in both operating rooms and sterile processing areas.
6. Participate in the cleaning, decontamination, and sterilization of surgical instruments and supplies.
7. Ensure the operating rooms are kept clean and organized, performing routine maintenance as needed.
8. Position patients for surgery in accordance with the surgeon's specifications, including a variety of animal species.
9. Assemble surgical case carts based on provided lists.
10. Support the surgical team with gowning and gloving procedures.
Qualifications:
Minimum requirements include a high school diploma with one year of experience in surgical services, or an Associate's degree or vocational certificate in surgical technology or a related field without prior experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a veterinary hospital setting and familiarity with surgical instruments and sterile techniques are highly desirable. Certification as a Central Service Technician or Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician is also preferred.
Salary Range:
$31,200 - $54,200
Work Schedule:
Various shifts are available, including weekends and holidays, with responsibilities that may include weekend call rotations for sterile instrument processing.
