Overview of Responsibilities

The Vehicle Maintenance Technician is tasked with the essential duty of diagnosing, servicing, and repairing municipal vehicles and machinery for the City of Cape Girardeau.

Key Responsibilities

• Conducts routine maintenance on municipal vehicles and machinery.

• Identifies and resolves engine malfunctions; performs repairs on diesel, gasoline, and propane engines.

• Provides assistance to construction teams as necessary; engages in form building, concrete pouring, and finishing tasks.

• Responds to urgent repair situations as needed.

• Utilizes appropriate diagnostic tools and equipment.

• Maintains and repairs hydraulic systems, including cylinders, pumps, and motors.

• Undertakes additional related tasks as required.

Required Qualifications

• A high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory, along with three (3) years of relevant experience.

• Must adhere to Missouri CDL regulations and hold a valid Class "B" or superior CDL with air brake endorsement.

Preferred Qualifications

• Preference may be given to candidates with ASE certification or other relevant specialized training.

Compensation and Benefits

• Hourly wage of $19.89, complemented by a comprehensive benefits package.
  • Bi-weekly payment schedule.
  • Twelve paid holidays annually.
  • Accrual of 96 hours of vacation throughout the year.
  • Accrual of 96 hours of sick leave throughout the year.
  • Two days of personal leave each fiscal year, contingent upon employment status on July 1.
  • City-covered monthly premiums for health and dental insurance for the employee only.
  • City-funded monthly life insurance for the employee (equivalent to one times annual salary up to $50,000).
  • Optional group term life insurance available at the employee's expense.
  • Optional vision insurance available at the employee's expense.
  • Voluntary deferred compensation plan, not matched by the City.
  • Retirement plan (LAGERS) funded by the City, providing a secure retirement option.
  • Total compensation value (hourly starting rate plus benefits) for this position is $29.46 hourly/$61,272 yearly.
