Position Overview:
This role is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), which offers reimbursement for student loan payments.

Applicants must meet specific eligibility criteria as per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment.

Approval for the program, including award amounts (up to $200,000) and eligibility periods (ranging from one to five years), will be determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after a thorough review of the EDRP application.

Key Responsibilities:
As a physician within the Veterans Health Administration, you will be part of a comprehensive total rewards package.

Work Schedule:

Compensation:
Competitive salary, annual performance bonuses, and regular salary increases.

Clinical Duties:
As a practicing physician, you will manage the overall care of patients enrolled in the healthcare services provided by the Veterans Health Administration.

You will also handle administrative tasks related to clinic operations and collaborate with a team of healthcare professionals, including other physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and support staff, to ensure optimal patient care.

Proficiency in computer skills is essential, as the healthcare system is fully computerized for documentation, order entry, and consult requests.

Primary Care Responsibilities:
Approximately 60%-100% of your time will be dedicated to primary care.

Teaching Responsibilities:
0-20% of your time may involve resident or medical student teaching as assigned.

Patient Care:
Coordinate care for a panel of outpatients as assigned. Evaluate and treat both acute and chronic health issues for scheduled and unscheduled patients in a clinic setting. Conduct thorough histories and physical examinations, ensuring appropriate documentation that includes history, physical exam findings, diagnosis, care plan, and patient disposition.

Ensure that patients receive a list of current medications and an appointment schedule at the conclusion of their visit.

Perform office procedures within your approved privileges, prescribe medications as necessary, and order routine laboratory, radiological, and diagnostic tests, providing initial interpretations of results.

Communicate test results to patients and initiate requests for consultations and special tests as needed.

Screen patients to assess the need for hospitalization and function as a preceptor for residents in the clinic setting as assigned.

Provide education to patients and their families as required.

Requirements:
Applicants must be U.S. citizens; non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited.

All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.

Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.

Proficiency in written and spoken English is mandatory, and candidates may be required to serve a probationary period.

Background/security investigations will be conducted, and selected applicants must complete an online onboarding process.

Passing a pre-employment physical examination is required.

Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is mandatory for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).

Additionally, participation in the COVID-19 vaccination program is required for all Veterans Health Administration Health Care Personnel (HCP).

Qualifications:
To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements specified in the job announcement.

Applicants who are in the process of completing training or licensure may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are fulfilled.

Current VA physicians who met the previous qualification standards at the time of their initial appointment are considered to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.

Basic Requirements:
Citizenship:
U.S. citizenship is required; non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited.

Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from an accredited institution.

The degree must have been obtained from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.

Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.


Residency Training:
Completion of residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification is required.

Preferred Experience:
Board certification/eligibility and experience in Primary Care are highly desired. Comprehensive women's health care experience is also preferred.
