Salary Range:
The minimum compensation for this role is determined by appointment type and rank, with a base salary range of $90,500 - $350,000. Annual salary negotiations are standard, and additional compensation may be available for those involved in the Health Sciences Compensation Plan.

Position Description

The Department of Pathology at UC San Diego is dedicated to fostering academic excellence and diversity among its faculty, staff, and students. We are seeking research faculty specializing in organ transplantation to contribute to the newly established Center for Transplantation Science.

This Center is an innovative interdepartmental research initiative aimed at promoting clinical, translational, and fundamental research in transplantation. Areas of research interest include, but are not limited to, immunology, computational biology, cellular biology, vascular biology, and regenerative medicine. Successful candidates will thrive in a collaborative and intellectually stimulating environment.

Responsibilities include establishing and maintaining an independent, externally funded research program in transplantation science, with an emphasis on collaboration across various departments within the School of Medicine. Additional duties involve delivering high-quality training and education within the School of Medicine.

Qualified candidates may also engage in clinical activities related to Laboratory and Genomic Medicine or Anatomic Pathology, particularly in the context of transplantation.

The appointment will be at the Assistant Professor level, contingent upon the candidate's qualifications and experience. The series may include a combination of 50% Ladder Rank and 50% In-Residence with secured external funding, or a 100% Ladder Rank series.

As a participant in the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, candidates should be aware of restrictions on outside professional activities, including prohibitions on clinical moonlighting.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications (required at time of application)

Candidates must possess an MD or equivalent, MD/PhD, or PhD in fields pertinent to transplantation research.

For those with an MD or equivalent intending to engage in clinical work, eligibility for a California medical license or equivalent certification is required.

Candidates planning to have clinical responsibilities must be board-eligible or board-certified in Anatomic and/or Clinical Pathology or a related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with an active research program in organ transplantation and current external funding.
