Product Design Engineer Role

We're seeking a talented Product Design Engineer to join our team at iFixit. As a key member of our innovation-driven NPI process, you'll work alongside other engineers to ideate and create new repair products and procedures.

Responsibilities:
  • Be a key contributor in our NPI process, driving innovation and excellence in product design.
  • Design advanced tools and parts that empower DIY enthusiasts, leveraging your expertise in consumer electronics repair.
  • Innovate by generating design options, solving challenges, and taking products from concept to launch.
  • Oversee product lifecycles, driving improvements and resolving issues.
  • Collaborate with quality and manufacturing teams for precision.
  • Create impactful design documentation, including proposals, memos, presentations, and RFQs.

Requirements:

  • A technical degree related to consumer product design, or convincing related experience.
  • 2-5 years experience in a related field.
  • Computer Aided Engineering Skills, specifically 3D design (Autodesk Inventor preferred) and 2D design communication skills.
  • Excellent spreadsheet skills.

Bonus points for:

  • Industrial design generation and evidence of customer-focused engineering.
  • Engineering Design Communication skills: RFQ Packages, design Documents (proposals, memos, presentations).
  • Knowledge of DFM and DFA methods and constraints. Ability to design for a variety of materials and processes.
  • Experience with product lifecycles, BOM management, revisions.
  • Experience in consumer electronics design.
  • Hands-on experience with tools and repair.
