Position Summary:
The Coil Winding Technician plays a crucial role in the production of power transformers by expertly winding coils as part of the manufacturing process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret winding specifications to identify the necessary characteristics for each coil, ensuring accurate turn count verification.
- Record coil numbers and relevant details on documentation for tracking purposes.
- Select and install the appropriate mandrel device, making adjustments as needed to meet size specifications.
- Load conductors and insulating materials onto the machine's de-reeling mechanisms.
- Measure and adjust materials to ensure proper alignment and compliance with specifications.
- Calibrate machine settings to achieve the desired dimensions of the finished coils.
- Execute winding and insulation of coils according to detailed instructions.
- Follow winding instructions to achieve the specified number of turns for each coil section.
- Perform brazing or bending of taps and leads at designated locations within the coil.
- Ensure proper cold welding techniques are applied.
- Position and insulate leads according to winding sheets and diagrams.
- Splice materials as required, adhering to specifications.
- Safely remove coils from the mandrel, utilizing appropriate lifting techniques.
- Operate forklifts and manage the loading and unloading of coils in/out of ovens.
- Accurately track job hours using Factory Track systems.
- Be adaptable to cross-training in various manufacturing areas as needed, with a willingness to work overtime, including weekends.
- Prioritize safety in all aspects of the job.
Essential Qualifications:
- Dexterity: Strong hand-eye coordination is essential for handling small components.
- Mathematical Skills: Basic math proficiency is required, including the ability to read a tape measure and use computers.
- Mechanical Aptitude: Familiarity with programmable motion-control devices and the use of hand and power tools is necessary.
- Technical Knowledge: Ability to comprehend technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics is crucial for effective coil manufacturing.
- Physical Stamina: Capability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
- Physical Strength: Must be able to lift components weighing over 50 pounds, with overhead cranes available for heavy lifting.
Additional Requirements:
- A minimum of one year of experience in a manufacturing environment with a stable work history.
- Basic computer skills and experience with data entry are required.
- Experience operating material handling equipment, including forklifts, with appropriate training.
Education:
- High school diploma or GED is required.
