Job Summary

The Department of Ophthalmology at UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking a highly skilled Certified Ophthalmic Assistant to support our clinical team in delivering exceptional patient care. As a valued member of our team, you will play a critical role in enhancing patient comfort and satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist ophthalmologists in the treatment and care of patients, ensuring a seamless and efficient experience.
  • Prepare patients for eye examinations, measure glasses, and maintain ophthalmic instruments to the highest standards.
  • Administer eye and oral medications as directed by ophthalmologists, prioritizing patient safety and well-being.
  • Test ocular functions, including visual acuity, muscle balance, and intra-ocular tension, to provide accurate diagnoses and treatment plans.
  • Collaborate with the ophthalmology team to develop and implement effective patient care strategies, promoting a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
Requirements
  • High school graduation or equivalent
  • One (1) year of work experience in Ophthalmology (clinical program practicum experience preferred)
  • Must complete the home study course for Joint Commission of Allied Health personnel in Ophthalmology
  • Certified as COA by JCAHPO
  • One (1) year of college preferred
