Job Summary

As a Nurse Extern with the University of New Mexico - Hospitals, you will have the opportunity to provide basic patient care and assist in the maintenance of a safe and clean environment. This role is ideal for individuals who are looking to gain experience in a hospital setting and develop their skills in patient observation, vital sign measurement, and activities of daily living.

Responsibilities

• Observe patients to ensure their safety and well-being, reporting any concerns to the Charge Nurse or appropriate designee.
• Provide basic patient care, including taking and recording vital signs, assisting with activities of daily living, and maintaining a therapeutic plan of care.
• Participate in educational programs and workshops to enhance professional growth and development.
• Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures, and protocols.

Requirements

• Essential: Basic Nursing Skills Course at Nursing School, Nursing Acute Care Clinical Course, CPR for Healthcare/BLS Provider or Professional Rescuer within 30 days, and temporary or permanent RN license within 6 weeks.
• Non-essential: Bilingual English, Spanish, Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo.
