Job Overview

Position Summary

PCSI is seeking a skilled Boiler Tender responsible for the operation, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of heating and domestic hot water boilers. This role also includes managing low pressure steam boilers and performing essential maintenance tasks such as cutting and re-tubing both fire-side and water-side boiler tubes. The successful candidate will report directly to the HVAC Supervisor.

Work Schedule

Typical working hours are Monday through Friday, from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM.

Key Responsibilities of the Boiler Tender:

  • Operate, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain heating and domestic hot water boilers.
  • Manage the operation and maintenance of low pressure steam boilers.
  • Perform cutting and re-tubing of fire-side and water-side boiler tubes.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain centrifugal pumps and motors.
  • Replace electrical components such as fuses, switches, and wiring to ensure proper boiler function.
  • Fire the boiler and monitor operational readings on gauges and meters.
  • Adjust controls to maintain safe and efficient boiler operation in response to steam or high-temperature water demands.
  • Maintain operational logs and analyze boiler water for chemical properties.

Qualifications for Success:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Current Boiler Operator License is mandatory.
  • A minimum of five years of relevant experience is necessary.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English is essential.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to stand, walk, kneel, squat, bend, and reach regularly.
  • Capability to lift up to 50 lbs. multiple times throughout the day.
  • Proficient in cutting, modifying, threading, repairing, and installing piping systems.
  • Competence in using hand tools, power tools, and equipment for maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Knowledge of chemical treatment methods for boiler feed water.
  • Strong teamwork skills and the ability to work independently.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must pass criminal background, drug, and driving screenings.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Flexibility to work any day or time, including weekends and holidays.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record is required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance for assigned sites, if necessary.
