Job Overview

Position Title: Custodian
Reports To: Director of Operations
Position Summary: A member of the custodial team at Detroit Academy of Arts and Sciences is tasked with ensuring the cleanliness and upkeep of our educational facilities. The custodial staff plays a vital role in providing a safe and hygienic environment for students, staff, and the broader school community.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in custodial services is advantageous.
  • Physical capability to perform all necessary tasks.
  • Ability to maintain a professional rapport with colleagues, students, and families.
  • Competence to work autonomously as well as collaboratively to fulfill responsibilities efficiently.

Employment Details: Evening shift, from 4 PM to 10 PM. Part-time position, with a maximum of 30 hours per week.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Foster a professional relationship with supervisors, staff, families, students, and the public.
  • Complete job responsibilities independently and as part of a team in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that school buildings and surrounding areas are kept clean and orderly.
  • Utilize appropriate equipment to mop, scrub, and wax floors as necessary.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the cafeteria and manage waste disposal effectively.
  • Vacuum and clean carpeted areas thoroughly.
  • Perform spot cleaning and scrubbing of walls.
  • Empty waste receptacles in classrooms and offices regularly.
  • Sanitize restroom facilities, including walls, sinks, toilets, and mirrors.
  • Restock toilet paper and towel dispensers as needed.
  • Disinfect water fountains and ensure cleanliness of chairs and desks in classrooms and offices.
  • Execute additional maintenance and custodial tasks as assigned.
