Position Summary
Under the guidance of the Supervisor and/or Department Manager, this role involves executing line setups, changeovers, and performing mechanical and electrical repairs on liquid, topical, and powder filling and packaging machinery. The technician will also carry out assigned preventive maintenance tasks and document all work completed, including dates, times, and parts utilized in the CMMS.
Key Responsibilities
- Adhere to all company and OSHA safety regulations while repairing and maintaining machinery and mechanical equipment according to diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and manufacturer specifications, utilizing hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments.
- Conduct visual inspections of mechanical devices in operation and listen for unusual sounds to identify issues.
- Assess the form and texture of components to detect defects.
- Evaluate used parts to determine necessary dimensional adjustments using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring tools.
- Adjust functional components of production machinery as needed.
- Repair or replace faulty parts using hand and power tools.
- Install specialized functional and structural components in devices with hand tools.
- Initiate devices to test their functionality.
- Lubricate and clean machinery parts.
- May set up and operate metalworking tools such as drill presses and grinders to fabricate and repair components.
- May perform repairs on electrical equipment.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and execute immediate repairs and preventive maintenance.
- Overhaul and install new machinery.
- Rebuild and fabricate components as necessary.
- Conduct facility maintenance and ensure a clean and safe working environment.
- Generate parts requests to maintain adequate inventory levels.
- Complete assigned work orders promptly.
- Execute equipment changeovers and production line setups.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficient in speaking, reading, and writing English.
- Basic mathematical skills are necessary.
- Familiarity with liquid filling, capping, and labeling equipment.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Fundamental understanding of mechanical and electrical systems.
- Proficient in using a multimeter for testing resistance and voltages.
- Capable of diagnosing and repairing pneumatic and hydraulic system components.
- Skilled in using hand tools for machinery repairs.
- Competent in using basic power tools and shop equipment such as drill presses and band saws.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- This position does not include supervisory duties.
Working Environment
- Collaborates with the Supervisor of Mechanics for daily tasks and provides support as needed to line leaders, quality control, production supervisors, and other management personnel. The role involves working in both air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned areas.
- Physical requirements include lifting up to 50 lbs, standing, bending, climbing ladders, and working in man lifts and forklift cages.
Minimum Qualifications
- At least 3 years of experience in a high-speed packaging environment.
- Ability to apply technical knowledge in practical situations.
- Strong communication skills.
- Capable of working independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision.
- Willingness to work additional hours on short notice to meet production goals.
