Job Summary

MedStar Health is seeking a highly skilled Orthopedic Radiology Technologist to join our team at MedStar Health: Orthopedics at Alexandria. As a key member of our department, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care and support in a high-volume ambulatory setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Care and Support
    • Escort patients to exam rooms and obtain patient history, answer patient questions, and explain procedures; communicate with physicians.
    • Prepare exam rooms and instruments for examination and testing. Clean, stock, and sterilize equipment in addition to cleaning and preparing patient rooms for care delivery.
    • Update the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system by inputting the patient's chief complaint, current medications, allergies, past medical history, past procedural history, etc.
    • Take vital signs as per protocol or directed by physician.
    • Apply, modify, and remove casts, splints, braces, etc.
    • Fabricate, adjust, and remove orthopedic devices, using appropriate tools and instruments.
    • Apply mobilization and immobilization devices as directed.
  • Diagnostic and Treatment Procedures
    • Prepare injections as directed and per department protocol.
    • Process charges for orthopedic durable medical equipment and inventory PAR levels.
    • Maintain and stock orthopedic equipment; make recommendations as needed.
    • Assist physicians with minor diagnostic procedures and treatments as directed.
    • Support the physician in patient examination, testing, and education as directed.
  • Quality Control and Safety
    • Label and maintain proper storage of specimens for tests.
    • Deliver tests and obtain results.
    • Perform quality control functions of assigned area, as directed.
    • Accompany patients to other areas as directed and assist in meeting patients' needs for comfort and hygiene.
    • Assist in scheduling of tests and appointments as directed.
    • Assist in wound care as directed by physician in clinic.
    • Operate the digital radiography equipment safely and according to manufacturer's recommendations and prepare and maintain the room.
  • Communication and Teamwork
    • Communicate effectively with all types of patients to gain their understanding and cooperation with radiographic testing.
    • Position patients correctly and avoid unnecessary radiation exposure, such as active verification of name and date of birth before exam start.
    • Take x-rays, as ordered, to help diagnose a variety of medical problems following the established procedures for patient care and safety.
    • Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of work areas.
    • Report any unsafe or potentially unsafe conditions.
    • Maintain X-ray and other equipment in efficient operating order.
    • Clean and disinfect x-ray equipment using appropriate materials.
  • Administrative and Support Functions
    • Request and order supplies.
    • Transport patients to the radiographic room.
    • Participate in meetings and on committees and represent the department and hospital in community outreach efforts.
