Job Summary:
We are seeking a qualified Afterschool Teacher to join our team at Brooklyn Community Services. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a class of 20-30 students in our after-school learning program, providing homework help, enrichment activities, and implementing hands-on multi-sensory and project-based lessons.
Responsibilities:- Implement engaging and academically stimulating lessons based on the thematic curriculum.
- Submit lesson plans to the program site director and Education Specialist for approval.
- Plan lessons for field trips related to the thematic curriculum and provide supervision to students during field trips.
- Participate in curriculum and other professional development trainings as required.
- Use creative and innovative teaching strategies to enhance and encourage literacy skills, social-emotional learning, arts, and STEM.
- Work with the program site director and other staff to develop and plan culminating event presentations that showcase learning and creativity.
- Engage and communicate with parents and families as required by the site director.
- Provide effective supervision to 20 students during classroom activities and transitions.
- Monitor authorized parent/guardian pick-up of children.
- Direct and work with assistant teachers.
- Participate in agency-wide groups and meetings as required.
- Assist with development of funding proposals as needed.
- Bachelor's Degree required, Bachelor's Degree in Education field a plus.
- Experience working with children and youth; must enjoy working with children.
- Must be flexible to work across all afterschool programs to provide coverage when needed.
- Computer savvy in applications, video conferencing, and responding to emails.
- Background check with NYC and NYS Department of Health and NYC Department of Education.
- Current or former licensed teacher a plus.
- Background in visual, performing arts or sports coaching a plus.
