Overview
The Non-Destructive Test Engineering (NDTE) Supplier Support Group at General Dynamics Electric Boat has an exciting opportunity for a skilled Non-Destructive Test Engineer I/II to join our team. As a key member of our team, you will provide technical guidance to suppliers and internal/external customers on Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) requirements for nuclear submarine construction and maintenance.
Key Responsibilities:- Attend In-depth Supplier Assessments (ISAs) to evaluate supplier NDT performance and program administration.
- Support follow-up activities identified during ISAs, including interfacing and leading cross-functional teams.
- Coordinate with NDT Examiners to provide technical guidance, expertise, corrective actions, and problem resolution for suppliers.
- Maintain company standards, procedures, best practices, and process improvements in the field of NDT.
- Travel for this position is expected to be 25% or less.
- Bachelor of Science Degree or higher in Engineering.
- 0-4 years of experience.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance from the Department of Defense.
- Preferred qualifications include a degree in Material Science, Metallurgy/Metallurgical Engineering (focus on metallics), Welding Engineering, or other Engineering degree with experience in NDT.
- Engineering experience in aerospace, defense, heavy fabrication, or shipbuilding applications.
- Experience with NDT methods and applications to ensure acceptable weld and base metal performance for submarine construction (preferably previous NDT Level II or III certifications).
- Leadership experience.
- Advanced computer skills, including use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Candidate must be highly motivated, perform independently, and interact with other groups and organizations, including interfacing regularly with SUPSHIP and NAVSEA customers, in an engineering environment.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills to evaluate situations, make recommendations, and take prompt and effective action.
- Ability to understand documents referencing Non-Destructive Testing and interpret and rationalize inspection requirements.
- Ability to draft and peer-review supplier and internal documentation with respect to Non-Destructive Testing.
- Ability to identify risks and opportunities.
- Ability to manage concurrent tasks and effectively prioritize work.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
