Job Summary
The Culinary Institute of America is seeking a highly skilled Security Officer to join our team. As a Security Officer, you will play a critical role in maintaining the safety and security of our campus community.
Key Responsibilities
- Patrol campus buildings, stairwells, parking lots, and roadways to prevent and respond to security incidents.
- Perform security and public safety patrol duties, including checking for fires, vandalism, suspicious activity, or safety hazards.
- Examine doors and windows to ensure security and monitor closed buildings for unauthorized persons or suspicious activity.
- Perform periodic checks of emergency call boxes and lights to ensure proper functioning and report malfunctions as required.
- Remain alert for emergency situations and provide first-line response, emergency management, and/or referral to off-campus emergency services as needed.
- Enforce campus policies and procedures while maintaining confidentiality in law enforcement and/or security matters.
- Safeguard and control loss of campus property.
- Direct traffic and parking control enforcement, patrolling and monitoring assigned parking areas to provide public security and assistance, issuing parking tickets as needed.
- Identify, report, and investigate violations of campus code of conduct and local and state laws, including conducting preliminary and follow-up investigations on-site or as assigned.
- Provide service to visitors, faculty, staff, and students as needed, including providing transportation services for injured/sick individuals.
- Transport heavy bags of change to and from banks.
- Respond to complaints of disturbances, fights, suspicious person complaints, and emergencies, ranging from noise complaints to major medical emergencies.
- Prepare routine, standardized reports and daily logs.
- Furnish escort services for visitors, employees, and students as necessary and provide other assistance such as directions and general information.
- Inform and warn violators of campus policy and procedure infractions.
- Interact with police, fire, and other emergency service providers.
- Perform any and all other job duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Valid New York State Security Guard License.
- Ability to be certified in basic First Aid and CPR.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associates Degree.
- Minimum of two (2) years experience in security/law enforcement.
Working Conditions
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including different shifts, work schedules, and overtime as required by business needs.
- Must be able to stand, walk, climb stairs, bend, and stretch for the duration of the shift.
- Must be able to work outdoors for extended periods, sometimes in extreme temperatures and uneven wooden terrain.
- Must be physically able to perform CPR.
- Must be able to effectively communicate (speak and hear clearly) in person, via telephone, and via the radio.
- Must be able to effectively respond to emergency situations with all due haste.
- Must be able to move up to seventy-five (75) pounds and lift up to forty (40) pounds.
