About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Civil Design Project Manager to join our team at The Mannik & Smith Group, Inc. in Detroit, MI. As a key member of our Civil/Municipal Division, you will be responsible for overseeing the planning, design, and execution of civil engineering projects from conception to completion.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the planning and conceptual design phase of civil engineering projects, including site analysis, feasibility studies, and cost estimation.
  • Develop project scopes, schedules, and budgets in collaboration with stakeholders and clients.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, consultants, and subcontractors to ensure alignment with project objectives and requirements.
  • Provide technical expertise in civil engineering design, including site layout, grading, drainage, utilities, and infrastructure.
  • Oversee the development of engineering drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Review and approve design plans to ensure compliance with regulatory standards, codes, and project requirements.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and stakeholders, maintaining regular communication and managing expectations throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Monitor project progress, budget, and schedule, identifying and mitigating risks and issues as they arise.
  • Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of engineers, designers, and technicians, fostering collaboration and professional growth.
Requirements
  • 8+ years' of experience in design and plan preparation, with at least 4 years of site development projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Landscape Architecture, preferably working as a licensed Professional Engineer or Landscape Architect.
  • Experience with industry design standards, guidelines and specifications (i.e., City of Detroit and surrounding counties, MDOT, and etc.) and knowledge of AutoCad/Civil 3D grading is expected.
  • Proficiency in independent preparation of Hydraulic/Hydrologic reports, Roadway design and survey experience is a plus.
  • The ability to engage reviewing agencies while preparing technical designs and addressing comments is a critical part of our process.
