- Initiate, operate, and safely shut down machinery while adhering to quality and health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Manage production processes and material handling systems, utilizing computer controls where applicable.
- Monitor system performance through various indicators, including charts, gauges, and digital displays.
- Adjust operational parameters to ensure optimal performance across related systems (air, gas, speed).
- Conduct quality assurance tests on process samples to maintain product standards.
- Ensure the reliable operation of furnaces, dissolving units, and associated equipment, including pumps and motors.
- Possess comprehensive knowledge of operational procedures, safety protocols, and emergency response plans. Physical demands may include lifting up to 40 pounds and maintaining visual acuity.
- Exercise sound judgment and quick decision-making in response to operational challenges and unexpected situations.
- Uphold safe working conditions and practices throughout the facility.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and the proper management of hazardous materials.
- Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement initiatives and support team objectives.
- Effectively communicate issues, instructions, and observations to team members and other departments, both verbally and in writing.
- Operate the liquid sodium silicate plant, adhering to standard operating procedures and responding to system alerts with appropriate corrective actions.
- Utilize statistical process control methods to manage operations, including sampling and data analysis.
- Diagnose process issues and implement necessary corrective measures.
- Coordinate emergency response efforts, collaborating with local emergency services as needed.
- Demonstrate proficiency in all production operations and perform additional duties as required.
- Conduct quality control tests in accordance with established procedures, including measurements of product specifications.
- Document process issues and observations through established reporting systems.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Perform maintenance and minor repairs as necessary, utilizing available tools and skills.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in a chemical manufacturing setting.
- Familiarity with computer systems and commercial operating software.
Environmental Health and Safety Responsibilities:
Promote and demonstrate a commitment to safety and health as the top priority. Participate in risk assessments and training as required for the role.
