Under administrative supervision, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides high-quality psychiatric, addiction, and developmental disabilities nursing services. This role involves assessing, educating, counseling, and supporting the mental and physical health needs of designated client groups. The LPN will also develop and coordinate clinical programs while offering guidance to less experienced clinical staff members.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Deliver clinically appropriate psychiatric and addiction services to assigned populations.
  2. Document and transcribe orders from medical professionals and gather necessary medical information for clients.
  3. Administer medications accurately, educate clients on side effects, and manage prescription preauthorizations.
  4. Maintain precise and timely documentation in accordance with nursing practice standards.
  5. Manage a caseload of clients receiving medication services as required.
  6. Develop and oversee treatment plans and case reviews, including aftercare strategies for clients completing treatment.
  7. Participate in staff meetings, treatment planning sessions, and case conferences, providing insights related to client medical care.
  8. Conduct case presentations and collaborate with external agencies regarding available programs and services.
  9. Work with external stakeholders, including schools, families, and health agencies, to address client needs.
  10. Ensure the availability of laboratory supplies, medical equipment, and medications to meet service demands.
  11. Administer pregnancy tests and drug screenings, documenting results accordingly.
  12. Monitor medical equipment and testing in compliance with CLIA standards.
  13. Conduct emergency evaluations for high-risk clients to determine necessary treatment levels and arrange hospitalizations as needed.
  14. Provide medical leadership to clinical and administrative staff.
  15. Supervise LPN or CMA team members as requested.
  16. Manage medical clinics to enhance efficiency and improve client experiences.

EDUCATION:
  • Must possess a valid Kentucky Registered Nursing license.
EXPERIENCE:
  • Preferred experience in psychiatric, addiction, or developmental disabilities nursing.
  • Knowledge of nursing treatments and issues related to mental and physical health.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in a variety of nursing skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Leadership and supervisory skills are essential.
  • Ability to manage a diverse caseload of clients with varying needs.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Normal duties may involve limited exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissue.

All staff are expected to demonstrate principle-centered leadership, focusing on customer service and continuous quality improvement. Additionally, staff should familiarize themselves with and adhere to all safety management policies and Joint Commission standards.

REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Utilizes the Nursing Process (assess, diagnose, plan, implement, evaluate) in patient care interventions.
  • Consistent review of patient allergies.
  • Knowledge of medication reconciliation processes.
  • Demonstrates safe medication administration in accordance with policies.
  • Follows medication protocols for tracking, storing, and disposing of medications.
  • Assesses clients' competence in self-administering medication when applicable.
  • Monitors lab results and communicates out-of-range values to providers.
  • Knowledge of screening for substance use disorders and withdrawal symptoms.
ADDICTIONS / SUBSTANCE ABUSE:
  • Understanding of substance use disorder behaviors and treatment protocols.
  • Familiarity with 12-step recovery principles in medication-assisted treatment.
  • Knowledge of signs and symptoms of substance toxicity and withdrawal.
