Emergency Room Technician

Altus Community Healthcare is seeking a skilled and compassionate Emergency Room Technician to join our team. As an ER Tech, you will play a vital role in providing technical support to physicians and nurses in the Emergency Center.
Job SummaryThe Emergency Room Technician is responsible for assisting the nursing and medical staff in providing patient care, performing environmental tasks, and managing supplies and equipment. This role requires a high level of attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities- Assist physicians and nurses in providing technical care to patients, including documenting vital signs, performing phlebotomy and IV starts, and conducting EKGs.
- Perform urine drug screens and breathalyzer tests, as trained and checked off.
- Assist with physical exams, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and apply orthopedic splints as needed.
- Ensure patient care areas, storage rooms, and equipment are clean and maintained.
- Perform daily checks of ABC equipment in each room and maintain temperature logs in Pharmacy and Lab.
- Responsible for changing out Sharp's containers and recognizing equipment malfunctions for repair.
- Perform patient care as directed by nursing or medical staff, documenting on the medical record.
- Ensure an adequate supply of equipment needed for patient care and stock items such as linens, wall mounts, and vital sign machines.
- Perform quality control procedures and maintain records on these checks.
- Perform calibrations in compliance with manufacturer's requirements and ensure proficiency testing specimens are performed in compliance with policy.
- Monitor send-out lab procedures and maintain current policies and procedures.
- Interact professionally with all department members, physicians, staff, administration, and the Lab Manager/Lab Director.
- Able to perform moderate and waived testing per Clinical Laboratory's and according to patient care unit's policies and procedures.
- Able to interpret test results and take appropriate action.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 1-3 years' experience in an Emergency Room setting or as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-P) required.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence and effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor office setting with adequate ventilation.
