ROLE DESCRIPTION:
This position plays a crucial role in supporting the mission of the YMCA, a prominent nonprofit organization devoted to enhancing community well-being through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Under the guidance of Custodial Leadership, the Custodian is responsible for cleaning and sanitizing to deliver an exceptional experience to members while also providing leadership within the department.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Maintain the attractiveness and cleanliness of facilities by executing all tasks outlined in the daily schedule and ensuring the upkeep of assigned areas and equipment.
  2. Perform a variety of tasks including mopping, sanitizing restroom surfaces, dusting, waste disposal, window cleaning, vacuuming, and seasonal duties such as snow removal.
  3. Manage housekeeping laundry, refill disinfectant supplies, and restock storage areas.
  4. Operate and instruct others on the proper use of both motorized and non-motorized cleaning equipment.
  5. Follow checklists to complete tasks and seek guidance when necessary.
  6. Work independently while adhering to verbal and written instructions.
  7. Train, mentor, and support custodial staff members.
  8. Assist custodial leadership with daily operations and ensure high productivity and quality standards.
  9. Keep track of equipment and supply inventory.
  10. Document and report necessary repairs; carry out repairs as directed.
  11. Assist with minor maintenance tasks and demonstrate knowledge of custodial equipment operation.
  12. Ensure the security of YMCA facilities during shifts and report any incidents or hazardous conditions to supervisors.
  13. Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Must be at least 18 years of age.
  2. A minimum of one year of relevant experience is required.
  3. Certifications must be obtained within 30 days of hire: CPR/AED & First Aid and New Employee Orientation.
  4. Complete required training within designated timeframes.
  5. Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
  6. Capable of effectively engaging with diverse groups from various social and economic backgrounds.
  7. Ability to read and comprehend instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
  8. Willingness to travel within the region to various branches.
  9. Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
