Medical Technologist I Job Description

Job Summary:

We are seeking a Medical Technologist I to join our team at UNC Health Care. The successful candidate will perform a variety of patient testing and administrative tasks in support of the clinical activities in the UNC Healthcare System.

Responsibilities:

  1. Investigate problems with equipment, test results, specimens, and/or workflow.
  2. Participate on teams or perform special projects/assignments.
  3. Teach Clinical Laboratory Science students and Pathology residents, and train new employees.
  4. Perform quality control and equipment maintenance in the laboratory.
  5. Conduct routine and less standardized test procedures, including special chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic laboratory tests.
  6. Prepare specimens and reagents, solutions, heat, or filters as required.
  7. Report results to healthcare providers and consult/confere with them regarding test results.
  8. Review test results to ensure accuracy of report and timely correction of errors.

Requirements:

We require a Bachelor's of Science degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or a related field. The ideal candidate must have microbiology experience and be eligible to sit for the MT exam within 12 months of hire. Certification within one year of becoming exam eligible is also required.

Work Environment:

This is a per diem position that will support rotating weekends to provide full coverage in the laboratory. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a team.
