Physician (Anesthesiology) - West Palm Beach VA Healthcare System

The West Palm Beach VA Healthcare System is seeking an experienced full-time Anesthesiology Physician to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care, collaborating with other healthcare professionals, and contributing to the development of our healthcare services.
Responsibilities- Perform preanesthetic assessments and evaluations of patients, including requesting consultations and diagnostic studies, selecting and obtaining preanesthetic medications and fluids, and obtaining informed consent for anesthesia.
- Develop and administer anesthetic plans, which may include general, regional, or local anesthesia and intravenous sedation.
- Select and administer anesthetics, adjuvant drugs, accessory drugs, and fluids necessary to manage the anesthetic, maintain physiologic homeostasis, and correct responses to the anesthetic or surgery.
- Manage patient airways and monitor patient physiological data using noninvasive and invasive modalities.
- Manage emergence and recovery from anesthesia by selecting, obtaining, ordering, or administering medications, fluids, or ventilatory support to maintain physiologic homeostasis, provide relief from pain, anesthesia side effects, and prevent or manage complications.
- Release or discharge patients from the post-anesthesia care area and provide post-anesthesia follow-up evaluation and care.
- Order, initiate, or modify pain relief therapy using diagnostic and therapeutic modalities.
- Respond to cardio-pulmonary emergency situations and provide consultative care for critically ill patients.
- Collaborate with other services to establish guidelines for safe anesthesia administration and provide consultation on monitoring and evaluation of anesthesia care management throughout the organization.
- Participate in continuous quality improvement programs to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of patient care.
- United States citizenship.
- Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
- Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a state, territory, or commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia.
- Completion of residency training in anesthesiology approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Board certification in anesthesiology.
- Several years of clinical experience.
- Recent experience in vascular, thoracic, ENT, ortho, GU, and general surgery.
- Ability to practice both independently and with CRNAs.
Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. Note: Work schedules are determined and approved by the supervisor. The incumbent may be required to work various shifts on a permanent or temporary basis based on facility/patient care needs.
