Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY: The Intensive Care Technician is essential in delivering comprehensive support within the critical care environment. This role encompasses conducting radiological examinations as prescribed by healthcare providers, as well as preparing patients for consultations, facilitating laboratory tests, managing patient referrals, and ensuring all necessary documentation is completed efficiently.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct x-ray examinations for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes as instructed by the healthcare provider.
  • Assist in Medical Assistant tasks under the supervision of the department lead, aiding providers in preparation for examinations and minor procedures.
  • Welcome patients and guide them to examination rooms, perform interviews, and record vital signs such as weight, blood pressure, pulse, and temperature, ensuring all data is accurately documented in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Execute ancillary testing and procedures as directed by the provider, which may include EKGs, injections, blood draws, and applying bandages and dressings.
  • Prepare examination and treatment areas with the required instruments and maintain cleanliness and organization within these spaces.
  • Manage inventory of medical supplies, ensuring rooms are adequately stocked and instruments are maintained according to established protocols.
  • Process patient prescriptions as directed by the healthcare provider.
  • Handle telephone communications, providing responses and information to inquiries from patients, physicians, and pharmacies.
  • Triaging and processing messages from patients and front office staff to physicians.
  • Coordinate scheduling for tests and off-site procedures as necessary.
  • Dispose of contaminated materials in compliance with OSHA regulations.
  • Collect and manage laboratory specimens following CLIA guidelines.
  • Input patient demographic data into the computerized lab ordering system.
  • Monitor and communicate supply shortages to the supervisor.
  • Track the receipt of patient lab results and relay findings to patients.
  • Educate patients on post-treatment care and ensure all patient records are completed accurately.
  • Maintain a clean, sanitized, and organized work environment.
  • Adhere to all Infection Prevention policies and procedures.
  • Participate in required training programs and departmental meetings.
  • Uphold the highest standards of confidentiality.
  • Perform additional tasks and projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma.
  • Radiology Technician Registration through AART is mandatory.
  • Preferred: Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a clinical setting.
  • BLS Certification.
  • Familiarity with PACS System.
  • Understanding of medical terminology.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Strong ethical standards and conduct.
  • Capability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Proficient in computer use and EMR software.
  • Self-motivated, positive attitude, and a collaborative team player.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and disciplined.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges.
  • Ability to interact professionally with all levels of management and staff.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position requires activities such as sitting, moving between locations, and light physical exertion on a level surface. Proficiency in using a computer, telephone, and writing skills is essential. Manual dexterity for keyboard use, mobility, and good vision (including near acuity and depth perception) are necessary. The role may involve lifting and carrying items weighing up to 10 lbs., with occasional assistance needed for heavier items. Effective communication skills and normal hearing range are required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The role necessitates the physical and mental capabilities to fulfill the responsibilities typically associated with an Intensive Care Technician. The work environment is primarily indoors within a medical clinic setting, with frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, and other common medical clinic conditions. The position may involve working under stress in emergency situations, adhering to deadlines, and managing frequent interruptions, with the possibility of irregular working hours.
