Role Summary

This role focuses on teaching middle school history classes while promoting academic excellence, social-emotional growth, and socio-economic development among students. The successful candidate will be part of a grade-level team and department working together to foster self-guided learners.

Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitate discourse-based learning, encouraging students to analyze historical topics, debate, and synthesize arguments.
  • Guide students in understanding authors' claims, sourcing, argumentation, corroboration, inquiry, and historiography through primary and secondary source analysis.
  • Taught curriculum emphasizing diverse histories, including Indigenous peoples, African Americans, women, ancient cultures, and their impact on U.S. development.
  • Create an inclusive environment where students feel empowered to express evidence-based opinions and perspectives.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • A demonstrated commitment to supporting students' social-emotional and academic development.
  • An enthusiasm for collaborating with internal and external partners in the best interest of students.
  • A self-directed learner who solicits and implements feedback to improve outcomes and achieve objectives.
  • Required Experience: A minimum of 1-2 years impacting K-12 students in urban schools and communities, with academic expertise in Education, History, Geography, Political Science, Criminal Justice, Social Sciences, or the Humanities.
Compensation and Benefits

The estimated annual salary for this role based in Rochester ranges from $50,000 to $64,700, depending on relevant professional experience, education, certifications, and tenure with Uncommon Schools.
