Job Summary:

As a Nuclear Medicine Technologist at Advocate Health, you will play a vital role in ensuring the highest quality patient care. Your primary responsibility will be to operate advanced nuclear medicine equipment, utilizing your technical skills to produce high-quality images for diagnosis and treatment planning.

Key Responsibilities:

Determine the most effective image scan technique and position for patients using immobilization and support devices.
Operate sophisticated nuclear medicine equipment, adhering to all accepted safety standards and practices to ensure patient safety and quality care.
Coordinate quality control areas, including checking nuclear medicine images for optimal quality and disseminating exams to technologists.
Provide instruction and orientation to new technologists, ensuring they effectively participate in performance reviews.
Participate in problem-solving issues addressing patients, department operations, quality assurance procedures, interdepartmental relationships, and employee morale.

Requirements:

Must be a graduate from an accredited AMA School of Nuclear Medicine, with new graduates accepted.
Possess knowledge of HIS systems and basic knowledge of RIS systems.
Hold IEMA accreditation in Medical Radiation Technology, American Registry of Radiologic Technologists registration (ARRT) and certification in nuclear medicine (NM), or Certified by Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (CNMT) certification.
Be CPR certified within 30 days of hire.

Working Conditions:

Ability to work rotating shifts, any day of the week.
Must be able to make independent professional decisions pertaining to high-quality patient care, possess high technical skills, and function with minimal assistance in performing job activities.
Conscientious in practicing high-quality patient care, ability to lift and/or move patients, and work in a fast-paced environment with established time constraints.
May be exposed to hazardous materials and life-threatening disease, radiation exposure, and deal with extremely ill patients.

Age Groups:

This position can recognize needs and behaviors of the following age groups: pediatric (newborn, toddler, school-age), adolescent, adult, and older adult. Evidence of this can be shown by recognizing levels of development and modifying approach and exhibiting communication skills necessary to interpret age-specific responses.

Additional Requirements:

PET scan department rotations will be determined and scheduled by the Nuclear Medicine Supervisor. If the position has direct patient care or direct patient contact, the lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance, and for patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when the patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
