Position Overview
The Safety and Security Officer is responsible for providing immediate response to emergencies, enforcing federal and state laws, conducting mobile patrols, inspections, and searches. This role includes traffic enforcement and investigations, initiating arrests, and transporting individuals as necessary. The officer will perform protective duties, including safeguarding company-owned or leased properties, protecting equipment and materials, and controlling access to installations by employees, visitors, and residents. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in daily briefings, receive assigned posts, and follow any additional instructions.
- Execute general and specific orders for the assigned post.
- Communicate effectively via radio, telephone, and in person as directed.
- Engage with the public and government personnel as required.
- Manage access control, traffic regulation, and conduct both foot and vehicle patrols.
- Maintain the cleanliness and readiness of uniforms and assigned equipment.
- Adhere to standard operating procedures and regulations related to security, weapons, personnel, and property.
- Conduct thorough checks of personnel, vehicles, buildings, and packages.
- Be available to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays as necessary.
- As a critical position, be prepared to report for emergency duty during disasters or declared emergencies.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Preferred: 1 year of military or law enforcement experience.
- Completion of NBTS is required prior to assuming an armed post.
- ICS-100 and ICS-200 certifications are required prior to appointment.
- Honorably discharged veterans are preferred (if applicable).
- Possession of a diploma or certificate from a recognized law enforcement or military training academy is preferred but not mandatory.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Must be eligible to obtain a DoD security clearance.
- Must comply with drug testing and maintain an alcohol-free workplace, including random testing.
- Adhere to all guidelines regarding COVID vaccine attestation and restrictions.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Familiarity with standard office practices, including business communication, records management, and report preparation.
- Ability to provide technical and administrative support, exercise initiative and sound judgment, and manage multiple assignments effectively.
- Capable of working under pressure and handling sensitive assignments with confidentiality.
Physical Demands:
- Regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; may involve repetitive motions with arms, wrists, hands, and fingers.
- Occasionally required to walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision.
Work Environment:
- Typically works in a temperature-controlled office environment with frequent exposure to electronic equipment.
- May encounter extreme weather conditions during operational visits and be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, toxic chemicals, and loud noises.
