The Department of Horticulture at the University of Kentucky is seeking a tenure-eligible Assistant Professor to fill a 12-month, Regular Title Series position. The successful candidate will develop a high-quality research program in horticultural plant science, with an emphasis on using pioneering approaches in the breeding of horticultural crops for enhanced culinary, post-harvest, nutritional quality, and flavor.
Responsibilities- Develop a nationally competitive and collaborative research program in horticultural crop breeding, with a focus on horticultural food or specialty crops.
- Teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, with a lead instructor role in a single course and contributions to at least one additional course each year.
- Mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and contribute to departmental programs and initiatives.
- PhD in Horticulture, Plant Science, or Biology, with demonstrable skills related to phenotyping, genotyping, and accelerated breeding.
- Interest in the nutritional value of crops and economic viability, with a focus on creating germplasm opportunities for horticultural crops important to Kentucky and the United States.
- Ability to function as a team leader and within a team, with effective communication skills.
