Dietary Assistant

The primary objective of this role is to provide support in food preparation, serving, and maintaining clean and sanitary conditions in the kitchen and dining areas, as directed by the Director of Dietary Services or Cook, and in accordance with established dietary policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities- Serve meals that are visually appealing and appetizing.
- Assist in serving meats as necessary and on a timely basis.
- Ensure food is served in accordance with established portion control procedures.
- Participate in daily or scheduled cleaning duties, adhering to established policies and procedures.
- Clean worktables, meat blocks, refrigerators/freezers, and other equipment.
- Sweep and mop floors as directed.
- Transport soiled utensils and equipment to the wash area.
- Return clean utensils to their designated storage areas.
- Wash and clean utensils as directed.
- Remove garbage and maintain work areas clean, dry, and free of hazardous equipment and supplies.
- Set up meal trays, food carts, and dining rooms as instructed.
- Assist the cook in preparing meals.
- Distribute and collect menus as necessary.
- Obtain food supplies for the next meal.
- Assist in checking diet trays before distribution.
- Deliver food carts, trays, and other equipment to designated areas.
- Serve food in the dining room as instructed.
- Perform dishwashing and cleaning procedures, ensuring utensils and equipment are readily available for the next meal.
- Remove food trays from carts, dining rooms, and other areas, and transport them to the dishwashing area.
- Prepare and deliver snacks and other items as instructed.
- Must possess a minimum of a 10th-grade education.
- On-the-job training will be provided.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- Must be able to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
- Must be able to follow oral and written instructions.
- Must maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, the appearance of work areas, and perform regular inspections of food service areas for sanitation, order, safety, and proper performance of assigned duties.
- Must possess patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm, as well as be willing to handle residents based on their current maturity level.
- Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing dietary practices.
