Critical Care Nurse Specialist

**Job Summary and Qualifications**
The ICU nurse at Parkland Medical Center provides specialized care to critically ill patients, supporting their emotional, physical, and spiritual needs. Key responsibilities include continuous observation, frequent measurements of clinical conditions, and maintenance of competencies in hemodynamic monitoring and ventilator management.
- Incorporate appropriate assessments and intervention skills in all interactions and delivery of nursing care.
- Communicate with patients, team members, and management in an accurate, timely manner.
- Document in a complete, timely manner; appropriately use computer charting/ordering.
- Apply critical thinking skills and consider alternatives.
- Organize multitask workload, prioritize tasks, organize/deliver care for multiple patient assignments.
- Develop and maintain human care relationships.
- Acknowledge the impact illness/hospitalization has on patients and families; adapt care management for diverse populations and environments.
- Advocate for needs of clients; provide care in an ethical and legal manner.
- Recognize the importance of teamwork among care providers.
- Verbalize scope of practice for self and others, delegate and assign care, coordinate care within multi-disciplinary team.
- Incorporate teaching in delivery of care with a focus on health promotion.
- Provide information to patient, assess for barriers to learning, use colleagues as a resource as appropriate, provide counseling about health behaviors.
- Apply knowledge of patient populations served within unit; provide age-appropriate care, apply knowledge of expected norms in planning care.
**Required Skills and Qualifications**
BLS required; dysrhythmia training prior to ACLS.
ACLS within 6 months of hire.
CPI certification within 3 months of start of employment.
Registered Nurse with New Hampshire license or Compact License when applicable.
Associate's degree as Registered Nurse required, BSN preferred.
One year of critical care nursing experience preferred.
