Position Overview: Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director, the Aquatic Safety Officer is tasked with ensuring a secure environment for all individuals utilizing the pool facilities. This role involves responding to emergencies and effectively administering CPR/AED, First Aid, and Oxygen in accordance with certification standards. The Aquatic Safety Officer must remain vigilant and easily identifiable at all times while maintaining a professional appearance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement preventative safety measures by adhering to and enforcing pool regulations and policies promptly, while conducting routine inspections of the pool and deck area throughout the shift.
  • Provide focused supervision of the pool area during duty hours. Officers will exhibit attentive scanning techniques, covering 180 degrees every 10 seconds to monitor the bottom, middle, and top of their designated zone.
  • Comprehend and execute rescue operations and emergency protocols, accurately document incidents using the appropriate forms, and communicate with the Aquatic Director or designated personnel as per the Emergency Action Plan (EAP) in a timely manner, in line with aquatic and facility policies.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of equipment, ensuring that the pool deck and surrounding areas are tidy and free from debris.
  • Foster positive interactions with participants, members, and guests to ensure an enjoyable experience.
  • Oversee the cleanliness and chemical balance of the pool, documenting findings on appropriate recording forms, and report any issues to the Aquatic Director or designated personnel immediately.
  • Adhere to YMCA policies and procedures concerning the safety, health, and welfare of members, program participants, guests, and staff; respond to emergencies in accordance with facility policies and certification requirements.
  • Participate actively in all training sessions, staff meetings, and emergency drills as assigned.
  • Serve as a role model for pool safety practices.

Qualifications: Candidates must be at least 16 years of age. Current certifications in Oxygen Administration, AED, Ellis Lifeguard License, and swim lesson instruction are advantageous.

Work Schedule: Flexible hours are available, including mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends. Compensation ranges from $14.00 to $16.00 per hour.
