Role of the ELA Educator
Objective: The ELA Educator will facilitate the development of critical reading, writing, and analytical skills in students, enabling them to excel as readers, writers, and thinkers. As the institution expands, the ELA Educator will contribute to a department focused on preparing every student for success in higher education and professional pathways.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Department Chair to enhance the ELA curriculum, ensuring students cultivate both creative and analytical writing skills, master editing techniques, and connect historical themes with contemporary literature while integrating technology;
- Instruct four sections of ELA, utilizing class time and preparation opportunities to ensure that over 95% of students are prepared to pass the ELA Regents Exam;
- Possibly teach a section of 9th grade SETSS;
- Establish strong relationships with students, families, and the local community;
- Lead an advisory group, mentoring 10-15 students and fostering connections with their families;
- Collaborate with faculty, students, and parents to develop an innovative and effective educational model that aligns with our mission and influences educational reform nationally;
- Work closely with a co-teacher to create lesson plans, provide feedback, adjust instruction, and utilize data to inform teaching strategies;
- Participate in regular meetings with the direct manager and co-teacher, as well as weekly department meetings;
- Engage in professional development opportunities both on-site and in partnership with external organizations;
- Incorporate equity into curriculum design and instructional practices;
- Collaborate with colleagues across the Humanities department to implement interdisciplinary initiatives and align competencies and standards;
- Be open to receiving feedback from peers and supervisors, participating in a formal review process.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary range: $75,000 - $110,000. We offer competitive benefits and opportunities for professional growth and development.
