PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:
The HVAC Technician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair, and installation of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and odor control systems, along with performing various light maintenance duties.
SUPERVISION:
This role operates under the general oversight of a Unit Supervisor.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
May oversee entry-level personnel as needed.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Install, modify, troubleshoot, repair, and test both new and existing HVAC and odor control systems, equipment, and fixtures.
- Execute HVAC-related tasks as outlined in work orders.
- Conduct inspections and troubleshoot HVAC equipment using appropriate tools and techniques.
- Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on HVAC systems in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
- Install ductwork, hoods, and ventilation devices using both manual and powered tools.
- Acquire necessary parts through established procurement procedures.
- Adhere to safety protocols, operational guidelines, and emergency response procedures as mandated by the organization.
- Operate vehicles, such as vans and trucks, to transport supplies and equipment to job sites.
- Carry out tasks in a safe and professional manner.
- Provide training to peers and subordinates as required.
- Document and report the results of inspections and maintenance activities.
- Ensure compliance with the Authority's Integrated Contingency Plan.
- Operate equipment manually and via control panels as necessary for maintenance tasks, including pumps, valves, and other mechanical devices.
- Utilize condition monitoring methods and equipment to troubleshoot and rectify system issues.
- Interpret manufacturer manuals, blueprints, and schematics to perform installation, repair, and maintenance tasks.
- Assist other trades as needed and perform light maintenance tasks independently or as part of a team.
- Install and retrofit equipment related to plant systems, ensuring modifications align with specifications.
- Set up ladders and staging as required, utilizing hoists and other equipment for safe access to work areas.
- Perform routine testing, lockout/tagout procedures, and adjustments of process equipment.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas and perform related duties as necessary.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
Engage in productivity improvement initiatives and provide training to peers and subordinates as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent, with basic reading, writing, mathematical, and communication skills.
- Three to five years of experience in the operation, repair, and maintenance of industrial HVAC and related systems, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Comprehensive understanding of standard practices, materials, tools, and safety protocols relevant to the HVAC trade.
- Proficient in the use of tools and equipment associated with HVAC maintenance.
- Trained in confined space entry, CPR, and First Aid, with the ability to work safely in confined environments.
- Familiarity with maintenance management programs and processes.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid Massachusetts Class D Operator's License and a Massachusetts Refrigeration License.
- Completion of a competency-based training program related to the essential duties outlined above.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:
Motor vehicles, hand and power tools, hoists, and communication devices.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The physical demands of this position require regular use of hands for handling tools and controls, frequent bending and kneeling, and occasional standing, walking, and climbing.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This role involves working in various environmental conditions, including exposure to mechanical parts, fumes, and loud noise levels. Hearing protection is required in certain settings.
