Job Description

SELF Inc. is seeking a skilled Facilities Maintenance Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting routine inspections of our facilities and equipment, performing repairs and preventative maintenance as needed.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform general facility maintenance, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and landscaping tasks, as directed by the Facilities Manager.
  • Follow a schedule of routine maintenance for major systems, including plumbing, electrical, heating, and cooling systems, when assigned by the Facilities Manager.
  • Maintain security and control of all tools to ensure a safe and secure facility environment.
  • Utilize the maintenance work order system to report and describe work performed, and advise the Facilities Manager of special issues or circumstances that may affect problem resolution.
  • Assess assigned maintenance repair work to verify the reported scope of work and determine the approximate time required to complete the work, communicating the results promptly to the Facilities Manager and updating on the repair status as scheduled.
  • Perform maintenance repair work assigned by the Facilities Manager within the established timeframe.
  • Provide support to outside vendors when necessary, which may include providing access to the repair area, historical information, and facilitating communication with the Facilities Manager.
  • Work on a rotating on-call schedule for emergency repairs after hours and weekends.
  • Conduct routine facility inspections to ensure health, safety, local, and state code compliance, inspecting fire alarm systems, smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, and fire extinguishers, and reporting outcomes in writing to the Facilities Manager.
  • Be aware of and convey residents' communications and behavior to appropriate staff to maintain the health, safety, and security of the facility, residents, and staff.
  • Work with the Facilities Manager to ensure supplies, tools, and equipment necessary for basic repairs are stocked and available, activities including utilizing and maintaining inventory control systems, picking up and delivering supplies, and identifying special supply and equipment needs.
  • Use vehicles assigned solely for work assignments and comply with agency and maintenance unit rules governing routine vehicle maintenance and fuel.
  • Communicate with managers, employees, and administration in a professional manner to maintain a positive working relationship.
  • Participate in staff meetings by sharing observations and recommendations regarding the facility, residents, and staff relations to identify and resolve problems and function as a unified team.
  • Complete mandatory in-service training to meet requirements for continued professional development.
  • Maintain confidentiality obtained through job duties regarding employees, vendors, residents, outside agencies, etc., so that sensitive information is only given on a 'need to know' basis.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a High School Diploma or GED equivalent, with a minimum of two years training and/or experience in major system repairs, including heating, cooling, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general construction, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

A valid driver's license and motor vehicle record are also required. Additionally, the candidate must be able to communicate effectively with a wide range of constituencies, react quickly and appropriately in an emergency, frequently walk, stand, crawl, climb, bend, stoop, and lift 25 pounds or more, possess strong verbal and written communication skills, and have a criminal background clearance.
