About the Role

This position is responsible for evaluating the Commercial product from an underwriting perspective and utilizing data from a variety of sources to grow the business profitably. This position will evaluate expectations and underwriting opportunities and approve or decline submissions from approved brokers and agents. In this position, you will have authority to evaluate risks and make underwriting decisions and be responsible for maintaining and growing relationships within and outside of the company.

We are seeking an organized, diligent, and decisive individual who will represent the program professionally. The candidate must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and have the potential and desire to grow with Welling Young, LLC.

Key Responsibilities
  • Underwrite Submissions and Renewals as assigned
  • Perform risk reviews and upfront underwriting reviews to determine risk acceptability (new business, renewals, reinstatements)
  • Interact with personnel as requested by Management for training purposes
  • Review quotes and endorsements to ensure underwriting policies and procedures are maintained
  • Recommend improvements to existing procedures and work with business analysts to resolve system concerns
  • Demonstrate a willingness to be approached and engaged in discussing solutions to issues
  • Develop knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations applicable to the underwriting of commercial vehicles and act as a subject matter expert for both agents and underwriters
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned
Requirements
  • Candidate must have underwriting experience in Commercial lines (Construction, GL, Habitational or Auto) for middle market and larger loss-sensitive accounts
  • The position requires self-resilience, discipline, ability to prioritize and manage workload as well as communicate effectively and continuously with other staff and management
  • Minimum 2 years commercial underwriting experience
  • Marketing, multi-tasking, computer skills, underwriting, production reporting, business writing, and communication
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
