Job Summary:

The Perioperative Nurse Consultant at Kaiser Permanente is responsible for coordinating and integrating educational, consultative, evidence-based practice, and research functions into ongoing nursing practice. This role is accountable to the Nursing Director and requires a strong understanding of AORN standards, evidence-based practice, and systems assessment.

Key Responsibilities:

Improves clinical practice through the implementation of AORN standards, evidence-based practice, and systems assessment.

Assures that employees providing service have the knowledge and skills required to provide age and culturally appropriate care to patients and families through education, training, and experience.

Monitors and evaluates the quality and effectiveness of care delivered to patients during the intra-operative phase of surgery.

Leadership and Collaboration:

Provides leadership in strategic planning to achieve departmental and clinical specialty goals and objectives.

Collaborates with Operating Room Nurse Managers and the healthcare team to ensure regulatory compliance standards are met.

Education and Development:

Develops curriculum for education plans to include yearly competencies and orientation.

Consults with and assists management in the development of measures for quality and performance.

Staff Support and Development:

Provides oversight, mentoring, and administrative presence for Surgical Services RN education staff.

Assists staff with teaching plans, problem-solving, and coaching.

Qualifications:

Minimum three (3) years clinical experience within the last 7 years.

Minimum two (2) years leadership/education/management experience.

Bachelors degree in nursing or related field.

Registered Nurse License (in the state where care is provided).

Basic Life Support.

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum one (1) year previous experience leading a Surgical Services Education Team.

Minimum one (1) year management experience.

Minimum five (5) years education experience.

Minimum five (5) years clinical experience in specialty.

Prior experience as a Clinical Nurse Specialist.
