Job Overview

Position Summary

The Phlebotomist plays a crucial role in the healthcare team by managing laboratory test orders within the CPSI system, performing blood draws, and collecting lab specimens from various locations within the facility. Additional responsibilities include conducting EKGs, handling clerical tasks, and ensuring that draw stations are well-stocked with necessary supplies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Navigate the facility efficiently, participating in emergency drills and fulfilling the physical demands required to provide assigned services.
  • Execute phlebotomy tasks in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Foster positive interactions with patients and their families, enhancing their perception of the healthcare environment.
  • Adhere to safety protocols as outlined by established departmental guidelines.
  • Exhibit dedication to the core values of Pomerene Hospital.
  • Provide services that promote patient satisfaction and trust.
  • Encourage and support the involvement of Primary Support Persons (PSP) and family members in patient care, ensuring their inclusion in discussions regarding testing, procedures, and discharge instructions when appropriate.

Educational Requirements

A High School Diploma or GED is required.

Completion of six to eight weeks of on-the-job training is necessary.

Experience Requirements

Preferred experience includes 1-3 years in a healthcare or medical setting as a Phlebotomist.

Certifications & Licenses

Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) from ASCP or an equivalent body is required.
