About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse to join our Outpatient Mental Health team at the Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will provide exceptional care to our patients, working collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive mental health services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide psychosocial support and assist with problem-solving and coping skills development for patients.
  • Obtain health histories, collect data on lifestyle patterns, pain issues, and other relevant factors.
  • Administer long-acting injectable medications and screening tools, including PHQ9, GAD, PCL, MOCA, and Suicide Risk Assessment.
  • Monitor ongoing treatments, provide follow-up care, and coordinate with other healthcare providers as needed.
  • Assess patients, provide additional support, and refer to licensed independent providers when necessary.
  • Serve as a liaison for patients in community hospitals and treatment settings, facilitating continuity of care.
  • Coordinate with other agencies and make referrals to provide patients with necessary community services.
Requirements
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
  • Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
  • English Language Proficiency.
Preferred Experience

5 years of mental health nursing experience.

Working Conditions

The position involves considerable standing, walking, stooping, bending, reaching, lifting, and turning. It requires restraining confused patients, repositioning patients, assisting with transferring patients to Wheelchairs/stretchers/cars, and transporting them to other departments or facilities.
