Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Licensed Practical Nurse to join our team at the Department of Corrections. As a Clinic LPN, you will provide high-quality medical care to offenders in a correctional setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide accurate and timely documentation of offender medical records
  • Assist telehealth providers with medical appointments and provide medical assistance as needed
  • Provide standardized patient education within established nursing guidelines
  • Transcribe reports at change of shifts
  • Preserve confidentiality and maintain a secure clinical environment
  • Administer medications, collaborate on treatment plans, and employ infection control measures
  • Refer offenders to appropriate Clinical Services staff for new arrivals, crisis intervention, and interviews
  • Participate in restraining offenders for medical reasons and observe and report their physical and emotional condition
  • Operate clinical equipment and maintain a safe and secure clinical environment
Requirements
  • Current, valid license as a Licensed Practical Nurse from the South Dakota Board of Nursing or any state participating in the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact
  • Ability to effectively treat patients in a variety of settings
  • Ability to follow patient confidentiality standards and respond to emergency situations
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to read and comprehend the English language and communicate fluently in English
  • Ability to follow instructions and pay attention to details
Preferred Qualifications
  • Intravenous Certification
  • Long-term and acute care experience
  • Experience as an LPN in a correctional environment
